Hi, I’m Tamera Siminow, Certified Neurofeedback Specialist and Certified Master Hypnotist.

If you’ve ever been approached by someone who wanted to sell you something that did not interest you in the slightest, then you can understand how I felt that day.

I’d randomly run into a woman I’d done some of my clinical work with when finishing up my master’s degree in counseling psychology. It was a few years post-graduation, and I was happy to see her, but she had a glint in her eye when she told me she’d been thinking of me because she’d learned about this new thing that she was certain was right up my alley. Despite my skepticism and misgivings, I agreed to have lunch with her to hear about what she wanted to say.

What she said changed my life.

She was not at all interested in selling me anything; she wanted to tell me about neurofeedback. I listened to her and resisted believing her claims about how it worked and what it could achieve, but I did agree to go research on my own.

I did the research, was impressed and convinced, and here I am, almost 18 years later, an avid practitioner of neurofeedback and someone who is quite proud of shifting the course and quality of many people’s lives.  My colleague and now friend was right—this is my thing.

A similarly random thing happened to draw me into hypnosis. I’d seen a stage hypnosis program done for workers when I was a federal employee, but I never considered it to be something of value to me. Then, I had a client whose doctor charged me with helping him to quit smoking.

Neurofeedback is not in any way a smoking cessation program, but this charismatic doctor pushed me hard to help our mutual patient/client, and I ended up researching ways to help him quit smoking. Hypnosis popped up, and I referred my client to a hypnotist who specializes in helping smokers break the habit.

This client stopped smoking in one session (though he did several more to ensure that it was a lasting break of his habit), and I was amazed. It then dawned on me that combining working on rewarding the electrical patterns in the brain would blend well with working on getting the subconscious to shift patterns in the brain, too.

And so, here I am, with multiple certifications in hypnosis. I have the same passion to change people’s lives using hypnosis as I do neurofeedback.

It’s all the culmination and full circle of a path that began after college, when I worked as a domestic violence counselor and legal advocate in a shelter for battered women. My supervisor wanted me to go straight to graduate school to become a therapist, but I had majored in political science and was headed to a doctoral program that would lead to a life of academia, so I didn’t listen to the good advice my supervisor gave.

It was only after leaving graduate school to work on Capitol Hill, then served in a couple of federal agencies that I realized I’d landed on my true calling at 22 and circled back to the helping professions.

I don’t do psychotherapy anymore, but I do help people become more of the version of themselves that they’d like to be. My philosophy of both brain training and hypnosis comes from a personal growth and development model. I believe in coaching you to help your body regulate itself, and together, we get it done using high-tech tools for neurofeedback and interpersonal connection with hypnosis. We also have a bit of fun along the way.

What is it Like to Work with Me?

Most people find that the decision to try brain-based work of any kind involves a leap of faith, so it’s important for you to get a sense of what you’re walking in to and what you’ll receive. I believe that meeting me for a no-nonsense, no-pressure (and no charge) consultation is the best way to make that decision

We’re likely to be a good fit to work together if you want to:

Feel Nurtured

I believe that medical and clinical settings are stress-inducing, so I don’t do that. You won’t find any technicians or white lab coats. I don’t treat you like a patient, because that’s not what you are.  I want my trainees to feel comfortable and at home.

Get Customized Training

There’s no such thing as a “normal” or “average” brain, so my training plans are customized for each individual, based on a philosophy of training to optimize the whole brain. I combine this idea with measuring what’s really going on electrically through what’s called a Trainers’ qEEG.
